I am a Research Scientist at Facebook AI Research (FAIR) based in the San Francisco Bay Area. My research interests include but are not limited to representation learning, self-supervised learning, and generative modeling for speech. Currently, I primarily focus on developing real-time direct speech-to-speech translation systems, with the goal of breaking down communication barriers around the world.
I received my Ph.D. and S.M. degrees in Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the supervision of Dr. James Glass in 2022 and 2019, respectively. During my Ph.D., I did several internships working on various spoken and written language processing problems within the context of un-/self-/semi-supervised learning, including speech synthesis within Google Perception in summer 2018, text summarization within Google Brain in summer 2019, spoken language understanding within Microsoft Cognitive Services Research in summer 2020, and automatic speech recognition & translation at Google Brain in summer 2021. Prior to attending MIT, I received my B.S. degree in Computer Science from National Taiwan University in 2016, under the supervision of Prof. Hsuan-Tien Lin, Prof. Lin-Shan Lee, and Prof. Hung-Yi Lee.
